Virginia M. Smith





Virginia M Smith (Ginny) of Westbrook CT passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on November 27, 2023 at the age of 88. She is survived by her three children Lloyd Smith, Gary Smith of Branford CT, and Wilda (Michael) Lohutko of Westbrook CT. She was the loving grandmother of Megan (Caleb Mack) Lohutko, Jonathan Lohutko, Christopher Lohutko, Zachary Lohutko, and Jacqualynne (Nick) Jarmie. She was the great-grandmother of Isabella Jarmie and was looking forward to the upcoming birth of her second great-grandchild.Born on July 16, 1935 in Norwood MA, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Pike and Gladys Swaim. Ginny was the wife of the late Lloyd Smith (Harold); they married in 1956 and shared an eternal love. She was predeceased by her brother David Pike and her sisters Marion Rowell and Barbara Riley. She was loved by her many nieces and nephews whom she cherished throughout her life.Ginny was a longtime resident of Guilford CT and later Westbrook CT. She worked at Clinipad Corporation in Guilford for 20 years and then Aplicare, Inc in Meriden for 11 years. She retired in 2007 at the age of 72 to help care for her grandchildren.Ginny was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan who was well known for her culinary talents. Her "secret" recipes included Boston baked beans, strawberry shortcake, banana cream pie and her famous pie crust. Everyone who met her was captivated by her cheeky smile and contagious giggle. She was known to many in the CT Classics Jr Drum & Bugle Corps as "Mom" and often sacrificed her vacations to be a trip chaperone, team laundress, chef, and waitress. School gymnasiums across the country became her version of a 5-star resort. She later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Clinton where she enjoyed being a part of the Clever Crafters group. Her handmade table runners were a hot commodity at the annual Holly Fair.Ginny's celebration of life service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church, 12 Commerce Street, Clinton CT.
