Ronald (Ron) Barrett 1958-2019

Ronald (Ron) Barrett, 60, of Manchester, CT peacefully passed away on January 10, 2019 at the Smilow Cancer Center in New Haven, CT from a long fought and tiresome battle of leukemia.


Ron was born in Hartford, CT on March 9, 1958. He lived most of his younger life in East Hartford and that’s where he finished high school. He proudly served in the USMC from 1976-1980. Ron then continued his commitment to the armed forces for 2 more years with the Army. Soon thereafter he graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing as an LPN. He was employed at ADRC in Hartford,CT, Hartford Correctional, and then spent his last many years working at Lebanon Pines in Lebanon, CT. Ron was very passionate about his New England Patriots and his “lil’bitch“ Bella, his Shih Tzu dog. He had a vibrant personality with an outstanding sense of humor.


Ron is survived by his mother Anita Barrett Schmidt of South Windsor, and his father the late James Barrett. Three sisters, Thora Boudreau of South Windsor, Deborah Szymkiewicz of Norwich, and Linda D’Anzi of New Britain. One brother, the late Gary Barrett of Manchester. One step sister, Laura Heslin and her husband Howie. Five step brothers, Rodney Schmidt (the 2nd) and his wife Darla, Joseph Schmidt and his wife Denise, Steven Schmidt and his wife Carol, Keith Schmidt, and the late Robert Schmidt. Two nieces, April Boudreau and Bridgett Szymkiewicz. Three nephews, Mark Cameron, Wally Szymkiewicz, and Craig D’Anzi. And numerous great nieces and nephews, step nieces and nephews, and step great nieces and nephews, close friends and work colleagues.


Funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill, CT at 11:00 am January 21, 2019. Following the services (weather pending) a celebration of Ron’s life will be held at the clubhouse of Berry Patch in South Windsor, CT. Donations can be sent to the Smilow Cancer Center, Yale New Haven CT.
