Leila Richmond Bowman, 99, died at her home at Essex Meadows, Essex CT on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
Born in Brockton, MA on October 11th, 1924, the daughter of Philip Delano Richmond and Katherine Kimbal Richmond, she grew up in Wellesley, MA and graduated from Wellesley High School and the Pierce Secretarial School in Boston, MA.
Lee was the wife of the late Richard Wales Bowman, graduate of Dartmouth and Lieutenant after 4 years in the Navy. They were married in 1947.
They lived in New York City to start. The children grew up in Westport, CT. After some moves over time, they ended up in Old Lyme in 1979, Members of the Old Lyme Beach Club and Country Club.
Aside from the fact that Richard (Dick) died in 1992, Lee would say she was very lucky and thankful to have had a great life, wonderful family, and the opportunity to enjoy painting as well as some crafts, sewing and travel both before and after Dick’s death. Recent years have been at Essex Meadows, the finest place for retirement.
Lee was pre-deceased by her brother John Allen Richmond. She leaves a daughter, Leslie Wales Bowman and 2 sons, Bruce Kimbal Bowman and Eric Chamberlin Bowman and his partner Beverly Uricchio.
Donations can be sent to the Essex Meadows Scholarship Fund.
