Kenneth Michael Spellman

June 21, 1948 – April 19, 2025

Kenneth Michael Spellman of Enfield, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Residence—Little Sisters of the Poor—under their compassionate care and surrounded by family. His warm presence and gentle spirit brightened the days of countless residents and staff alike.

Born on June 21, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, Ken was the beloved son of the late Edward and Ethel Spellman. The family soon relocated to Waterbury, Connecticut, where Ken grew up and later graduated from Wilby High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in American History from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), a foundation that fueled his lifelong curiosity and commitment to learning.

Ken enjoyed a distinguished career in quality control at Experimental Tool, part of Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford. Over decades of dedicated service, he received multiple awards for excellence in workmanship and innovation. Beyond his professional life, Ken was a devoted community member, offering support and fellowship as a friend of Bill W., to many who valued his empathy and encouragement.

A selfless and kind soul, Ken was “an absolute joy to know,” with many dear friends across Connecticut and beyond. He had an absolute love of music—from the blues and soul masters to the electric guitar legends Jimi Hendrix, Santana, and The Moody Blues—often sharing stories of concerts past and spinning his favorite records for family gatherings.

Ken is survived by his sons, Matthew Spellman and Brian Spellman; grandson Foxx Matthew Spellman; sister Edwina D’Aiuto; and nephews Michael D’Aiuto, Robert D’Aiuto, and Ryan Dunn. He was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen Dunn, his nephew Stephen Dunn and, of course, his parents and his former spouse, Victoria Spellman.

A private funeral Mass will be celebrated on April 25th at 11AM at St. Joseph’s Residence Chapel, with Father Rousseau officiating. Following the committal, family and close friends will gather for coffee, light refreshments, and a time of sharing memories and photos by the urn.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial gifts to one of the following in Ken’s honor:
