Janette Lochowski

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a legend, Janette Lochowski, 65, who left us on April 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born on August 19, 1959, to Vincent and Evangeline Kiewlen in Meriden, CT, and grew up alongside her brothers, Vincent and Richard, and her sister, Christina. After graduating from the University of New Haven, Janette embarked on an illustrious career spanning more than 30 years as a Special Agent with the Criminal Investigation division of the Internal Revenue Service. Throughout her tenure, she served as a firearms instructor, a recruiter, and ultimately retired as a Supervisory Special Agent. Following her retirement, she continued her service to the field as an instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Her dedication earned her numerous awards and accolades, distinguishing her as a respected professional, mentor, and colleague.Through both her career and personal endeavors, Janette touched countless lives. She had a deep passion for volunteering: coaching her children’s Little League teams, substitute teaching, serving military members at the USO, and so much more. She loved giving her time to others, asking only for a smile in return. Her love knew no bounds. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.Janette cherished traveling, especially when it meant sharing the experience with her children and her beloved granddaughter, Brianna. From faraway destinations to spontaneous road trips, she delighted in creating lasting memories and filling their lives with adventure.  She was one of the most reliable and confident people one could ever meet. Janette approached life with strength, grace, and a quiet assurance that brought comfort to those around her. A devoted Yankees fan, a passionate photographer and artist, and a lover of peaceful beach days, she embraced life's simple pleasures and always found ways to bring joy to others.

Janette’s unwavering optimism, steady presence, and adventurous spirit leave a legacy of love and inspiration that will continue to live on in those fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her former spouse, Charles, and their three children: Nichole, Nathan and his wife Kristi, Andrew, and her cherished granddaughter, Brianna.

In her characteristically selfless way, Janette wished that no formal funeral service be held. She hoped for a gathering filled with joy and laughter. As she put it, “If everyone’s going to get together, it should be a happy time...”

A celebration of life will be held at On the Rocks at Fox Hopyard in East Haddam on May 4, 2025 from 12-4pm. To honor her vibrant spirit, guests are encouraged to wear Yankees gear, Hawaiian shirts, or any cheerful floral attire.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Yale New Haven Hospital Closer to Free Fund for Smilow Cancer Hospital.
