James Edward Brodeur 1946-2022

WATERBURY – James Edward Brodeur, age 76, of Waterbury, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Bucks Hill in Waterbury, after a long and brave battle with cancer. He was the widow of Carolyn G. Brodeur, who preceded him in 2014 after 42 years of marriage.

Jim was a lifelong Waterbury resident, born on Oct. 11, 1946, son of the late Raymond J. Brodeur and Hazel (O’Neill) Brodeur. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and from the University of New Haven with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing.

He was a firefighter for the city of Waterbury for more than 20 years. Jim was an active member of his community in the Overlook neighborhood of Waterbury, where he and Carolyn ran their restaurant, Country Kitchen, and hosted many holiday parties at their home.

After retirement, he spent much of his time at Western Hills Golf Course, assisting in the pro shop. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reminiscing with old friends, watching sports, family trips to Rhode Island and ensuring he attended every activity for his grandsons.

Jim is survived by his two sons, James O. Brodeur and his wife Sandra (Lyman), of Watertown, and Andrew D. Brodeur and his wife Michelle, of Waterbury; and his three grandsons, Patrick, Benjamin and Jacob Brodeur.

He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Brodeur and his wife Angela, of Orange, and his sister, Mary Lou Sartori and her husband Michael, of Torrington; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at 74 W. Main St., Waterbury. There are no calling hours.
