Frederick (Rick) John Hine II of Orange, Connecticut passed away on December 31, 2024, with family by his bedside. Frederick was born on June 13, 1958, to parents Walter S. Hine and Dorothy Hine of Field View Dairy Farm located in Orange, CT. Field View Dairy Farm has been in the Hine Family since the year 1639, making Frederick a 12th generation dairy farmer. Frederick has two siblings, Sharon Hine of East Haven, CT and Gregory Hine of Orange, CT. Rick felt most at home on the dairy farm as he was strongly connected to the farming tradition and had a passion for both dairy farming and horseback riding. Rick spent many years selling pasteurized and raw milk as well as ice cream, yogurt and other farm produce. Ricks innovation on the farm was endless; of notability were his self-directed and self-executed Haunted Hayrides of the early 90s, that will forever leave an imprint in countless people’s memories.
In addition to his affinity for farm life, Rick loved the sport of ice hockey from a young age, never passing up on a chance to play. His talent on the ice was evident from childhood, allowing him to play competitively throughout his youth, high school and collegiate years. Frederick graduated from Amity High School in 1976, where he served as co-captain of his varsity hockey team. Rick went on to pursue both his athletic and academic endeavors at The University of New Haven, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Rick was honored as an outstanding athlete while at UNH, chosen as ‘Most Improved Hockey Player’ and voted to The Williams College All-Star Team. Ice hockey has continued to remain a staple sport within his family as his son, Jason, played at Choate Rosemary Hall and his daughter, Abigail, captained at The Taft School and at Connecticut College. Rick's granddaughter, Ireland Aberdeen, is now a third-generation ice hockey player at The Elite Hockey Academy of East Haven.
Rick is remembered by his loved ones and numerous friends as a hardworking, genuine, athletic, kind and charismatic man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Rick prioritized his life experiences over possessions; he lived a minimalistic lifestyle and was often described by his peers as "fearless". Though Rick had his challenges, with time, he worked diligently to focus on the betterment of his life, both for the benefit of his loved ones and those he encountered during this journey.
Frederick is survived by his three children: Cristine Elizabeth-Hine Suppies of Connecticut (spouse: Austin Suppies), Jason Fehmer Hine of Maine (spouse: Megan Hine) and Abigail Meredith Hine of New Hampshire. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Ireland Aberdeen Suppies, Indiana Crew Suppies, Wolf Christian Suppies, Miles Edward Hine, Aiden Charles Hine and Hazel Morgan Hine.
Frederick’s family would like to give a special thanks and acknowledgement to the staff of The Summit at Plantsville as well as The Athena staff for their unconditional support and dedication to Fredericks’ care. The staff demonstrated great kindness and compassion for his person during his stay. We are forever grateful that Frederick was loved and met with humanity and understanding during his final days here with us.
A celebration of life will be held for Frederick J. Hine II in late spring of 2025.
