Donald J. “Raul” Breuler 1947-2018

Donald J. “Raul” Breuler presently of Lebanon, CT formerly of East Haddam, CT

passed away peacefully at his home on Thanksgiving morning, November 22nd 2018

after a valiant battle with a long illness. He was the husband of Jean and father of

Caitlin, Roxanne and Barbara.


Born in New Haven, CT, he was the son of John and Mary Breuler. He graduated

with a Bachelors (1969) and Masters Degree in Special Education from Southern

Connecticut State University. He was also a proud teammate of the SCSU varsity

basketball team.


He was a lifelong educator employed by the City of New Haven enriching the lives of

students at Augusta Lewis Troup Middle School for 35 years and ending his career

at the Deborah Tennant Zinewicz School for five years. He served his local

community as a member of the Rotary Club in East Haddam, CT for many years

fulfilling roles as Secretary and President. He will be remembered for tolerance and

acceptance of all people, his unique sense of humor, keen fashion sense, and love of

science and astronomy. He was a keeper of useless facts and a crossword puzzle

connoisseur.


He is survived by wife, Jean Marie (O’ Donnell) Breuler. They shared 44 years of

marriage together. Daughters, Caitlin (Jon Claude) Haines, Roxanne (William) Sulots,

and Barbara Breuler. His brothers, Edward Breuler and Robert Breuler. He also

leaves his three grandchildren Hazel Haines and Auguste and Livia Sulots. Nieces

and nephews, Sean Breuler, Chris Breuler, James Breuler, Jesse Breuler, Cody

Breuler, and Suzanne Rivera. He is predeceased by his parents and brother; William

Breuler and dear friend Peter Lanouette.


The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Visiting Nurses of Connecticut,

Hartford Healthcare Hospice, Chestelm Health; Rehab and Ray Axelrod.

A Celebration of Life ceremony for all family and friends will be held at the Vicky G.

Duffy Pavilion, 155 College Street, Old Saybrook, CT on Saturday December 29th

2018. Ceremony: 1:30-2:30pm, Reception: 2:30-4:00pm.


Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Leadership, Education, and

Athletics Partnership in New Haven, CT. Donations can be made payable to LEAP and mailed to (or dropped off at) LEAP, 31 Jefferson Street, New Haven, CT 06511 or
