Donald Eugene Andrews, 91, of East Haddam passed away on on November 17, 2022. He was born in East Herkimer, NY, on Dec. 3, 1930, to the late Floyd and Nellie Mae (Pickard) Andrews. He graduated from Herkimer High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1950 to 1954 aboard the USS Hancock aircraft carrier and the USS Kula Gulf.
Don earned an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering from Hartford State Technical College. He began his career at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and worked his way up through the manufacturing division until his retirement in 1985. He worked as a consultant for Samsung Industries in Seoul, South Korea.
Don was an avid fisherman with a wealth of fishing knowledge and a collection of fishing rods and lures. He loved to eat his catch almost as much as he loved to regale people with his fish stories. He was a self-taught banjo player performing with several groups for over 15 years.
He enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Florida, in New Smyrna Beach, Islamorada, and St. George Island.
He is survived by his loving children, Marjorie Davis of Key Largo, FL; Daniel Andrews and his wife Nancy of Wethersfield; and Eric Andrews and his wife Rebecca of Eufaula, AL.
He also leaves his five grandchildren, Jennifer Andrews Jordan and her husband James of Cromwell; Matthew Andrews and his fiancé Cristian Rivera of Clermont, FL; Adam Andrews of Miami, FL; and Alison and Kelly Price of Middletown. He leaves a sister, Marilyn Wittman and many nieces and nephews, including Dr. Mark Andrews of Palmer, AK.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Carol Lynch and Beverly Rogers, a brother Edward, his first wife Kathleen Payne, and his loving partner of more than 30 years, Wilma Renzoni.
