Derek James Hunt

Derek James Hunt was born June 12, 1976 at St. John’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, to parents, Douglas Hunt and LaVonne (Loni) Holland Hunt.  Derek grew up in St. Paul and Seattle, Washington.  He graduated from Kasson High School in Kasson, Minnesota and took classes from the University of Minnesota.  He returned to Seattle later to work with his dad in his furnace repair business.  Derek was very proud of his dad’s service in Vietnam.

Derek belonged to several rock bands playing guitar and singing.  He also was adept with computers and had contracting jobs setting up systems in Minnesota.  He applied to work at Yale and got a position there in 2001.  The family moved to Connecticut at that time.

Derek and Sarah Myers Hunt were married July 16, 1994.  They are parents of three children.  

Derek died November 11, 2024.  He is survived by his wife, Sarah, and their children:  Jasmine (Middletown), Darren (Berlin, Germany), and Matthew (Middletown); grandchild Elara Sol (Darren); his sister, Jessica of Seattle, Washington; cousins and nieces.
