Charles George Everett (Chuck) died on March 30, 2025 at age 85 from complications from the flu. He grew up with his parents, Lucy (Hoffman) and Clint Everett, and younger sister in York, PA before attending the University of Southern California, where he graduated as a journalism major in 1962. Two years as a lieutenant in the navy in the mid-60’s, and several months in Denmark restoring a replica of the Tea Party brig “The Beaver” in the early 70’s inspired a lifelong passion for all things nautical.
Chuck worked for 42 years in proud service to the federal government; first for the Peace Corps and then supporting and celebrating volunteers all over the country for what started as Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) and became AmeriCorps.Chuck was an audiophile and had a passion for West Coast jazz. A lifelong model train collector, he also loved patronizing galleries, and collecting and giving art. Chuck was deeply devoted to his family and so loved being a part of his grandchildren’s lives. He will be greatly missed--and will be a part of all of us. Chuck was predeceased by wife Mary and daughter Kelsey. He is survived by daughter Susannah Everett, son-in-law Mike Coyne and granddaughter Rebecca Coyne; son Mike Everett, daughter-in-law Tracey Everett and grandchildren Ben and Zach Everett-Lane; sister Virginia Everett; sister-in-law Martha Hewson, brother-in-law Craig Ziegler, and niece Jacqueline Ziegler.
Chuck read widely and deeply and absolutely loved libraries (and giving books). In his memory, donations can be made to the library at Chester Village: Masonicare of Chester Village Residents Association, attention library committee, 317 West Main Street, Chester CT 06412.
