Bruce Robert Marshall was born October 10, 1925 in Hartford Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Evelyn Marshall and three brothers: Ralph A. Marshall, Wesley G. Marshall, and Robert D. Marshall. He grew up in Wethersfield, attended Wethersfield High School and graduated in 1943 from Cheshire Academy.
He was a radar operator on a destroyer escort during Word War ll which was responsible for sinking two Japanese submarines.
He graduated from Tufts College in 1950 and from Tufts Medical School in 1954. He interned at Hartford Hospital and finished his Ear, Nose, and Throat residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in 1959.
He married Lois Foster M.D., in 1959. They had four children: Bruce R. Marshall jr., June Marshall Smith, and Elsbeth Marshall. They lost their daughter, Allison Marshall, in the first week of life due to a cardiac abnormality. June Smith has four healthy children: two boys and two girls who are all doing very well.
Bruce was an attending physician at Hartford Hospital for years and was head of the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department for twenty years. He was an assistant clinical professor at UConn Medical School. He retired from practice at age 71.
He was active in the Old Guard in West Hartford and participated in Meals on Wheels for years. He belonged to the Hartford Golf Club and shot his age at 78 and had 5 holes-in-one. He loved skiing and squash but stopped those sports at 55, kept the golf, and added bowling.
During the last decade and a half of his life, because of Lois' Alzheimers and her desire to remain at home, Dr. Marshall became a nurse's aide... Ultimately, despite Lois' disease, with the help of their children and grandchildren, the two doctors' retirement years were truly golden.
Lois died peacefully at home in 2022 and in March of this year, at 99, her dear Bruce died peacefully at home as well.
How he loved the spring...
There will be no funeral services.
