Barbara A Garrett (Klotz), 65, of Colebrook, CT
5/12/1956-6/2/2021
Barbara A. Garrett was born in Yellow Springs, Ohio and spent most of her childhood in Bethesda, MD where she was a graduate of Walt Whitman High School. She attended Cornell University for one year, then transferred to the University of Maryland, graduating with a BA in Economics, cum laude. She later earned an MBA at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business. She began her career at General Foods, then worked at Citibank and subsequently consulted in strategy, branding and marketing for a variety of communications and technology companies.
For a number of years Barbara lived in Stamford, CT where she met and married her husband, Franz Klotz. In 2016 they moved to Colebrook, CT (with their beloved cats) to pursue a solitary life, removed from the pressures of city living where they could enjoy their natural surroundings. Sadly, Barbara struggled with alcoholism and mental health issues for several decades, which tragically culminated in her ending her own life.
Barbara is survived by her three younger sisters, Linda Garrett (Las Cruces, NM), Laura Garrett (Sterling, VA), and Leila Garrett-Stevens (Norwalk, CT), her stepmother, Marianna Garrett (McLean, VA), three nephews, one niece and an Aunt, Helen Siswein (Allentown, NJ).. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Charles W. Garrett and Constance R. Garrett.
Memorial will be private. Donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness:
