Alfred E. Chabot, 77, beloved husband and father of Portland passed away peacefully at Middlesex Hospital surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025. He was born in Wethersfield, CT on July 14, 1947 to Wilfred and Lenora (McInerney) Chabot.
He is survived by his daughter Carly Chabot, grandson Luke Thurz and like a second daughter Courtney Schleidt. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Catherine Chabot. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Terry and Beau, sister-in-law Diane (Roux) Hoelzer and is survived by his brother-in-laws Ralph and Mark Hoelzer, niece Katie Hoelzer, sister-in-laws Nancy and Patricia and several nieces and their husbands and children.
Alfred proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. After completing his tour of duty, he was introduced to his wife Catherine by her brother and Alfred's best friend Ralph Hoelzer. They moved to Portland where they enjoyed their love of antiques together creating a home antique shop called the Rabbit Patch. They enjoyed time with family at Tom Petty concerts and watching the Red Sox. Al worked in many restaurants, car dealerships, as a Portland school bus driver, and finished his career with 18 years at the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
In retirement, Al treasured spending time with his family and caring for his wife during her illness. He had a passion for beach days, fairs, riding roller coasters, caring for the wildlife and Halloween. Recently, Al joined the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight and became involved with St Mary's Catholic Church where he was studying to become a Eucherastic Minister. He also served the community as a recovery sponsor and park volunteer. Al is remembered by many for his humor and generosity.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 15th at 9am at St Mary's Catholic Church, 45 Freestone Avenue, Portland, CT followed by a military burial at the State Veterans Cemetery at 11 am at 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. We invite his friends and family to please attend and honor his memory together.
